FLOW The Film

Have you seen T. Boone Pickens’ on TV touting his plan to switch from a dependence on foreign oil to an energy “strategy” based on wind? I remember thinking to myself “could you [The U.S.] even do that?” Not really my point. But It seems that’s not all keeping a “Greasy Man” busy these days.

On Friday Democracy Now ran a bit on the film “FLOW: For Love Of Water.” A new documentary citing a global water crisis and the growing reality of a “global water cartel.” Frightening…  Continue reading FLOW The Film

Those Eyes

So here we are in 2008, actually being subjected to one bad Hollywood blockbuster after another. And as much as it pains me to say it, I will. The thing I wanted most as a youngster, wicked special effects, has murdered the art of film.

I’m not, at all insinuating that all movies produced since 1997, say (Hint, hint) are all bad. I just feel a lot of the worst — modern horror and science-fiction features especially — wouldn’t even be entertained in the first place if it wasn’t for Hollywood’s seeming ability and weak attempts to hide shit writing and/or directing.

Quadriplegia

Something about the label “quadriplegic” and being considered a “quad” was something that never felt right. Not for any other reason than I felt it failed to give my ability proper description. In terms of I how used to view the term as a description of a disability more than anything.

Individuals who, for the most part have a fair amount of difficulty moving most of their body below their neck. Not that I saw it as degrading or insulting. Honestly I just thought of myself not fitting into, what I perceived as the classification.

I realize how flawed my interpretation of the condition was, and yes I’ve rearranged the way in which I look upon it and myself. Continue reading Quadriplegia

I recently watched what is without doubt the best horror movie of all time. Not many films are as unbelievably unsettling, or, better yet so disturbing as the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. When Leatherface clubs Jerry in the head causing him to collapse and “twitch” on the floor? So utterly intense.

Never has a single scene in a movie left me so affected. In fact I so clearly remember the first time I ever saw the movie and that scene, in particular. In Keg’s basement, as a kid, really, totally freaked out of my mind. As if being in his house wasn’t spooky enough, the walk home was truly something else.

It’s still, if not more difficult, to watch (what with it now being re-mastered?). Damn… Continue reading A Very Powerful Appreciation
