Shocked By The Stupidity

I, finally, had the opportunity to see the documentary Jesus Camp last night;

“Jesus Camp follows a group of young children to Pastor Becky Fischer’s ‘Kids on Fire Summer Camp,’ where kids are taught to become dedicated Christian soldiers in God’s army and are schooled in how to take back America for Christ. The film is a first-ever look into an intense training ground that recruits born-again Christian children to become an active part of America’s political future…”

Honestly, I must admit, the whole premise struck me as rather humourous, at first. Before my watching it, of course. But now, that it’s the morning after, I’ve serious issues with what I saw. And it’s no longer funny…

I’m quite sure this exact question has been asked before — how could it have not — but exactly how is what I saw demonstrated last night, not child abuse? And the “adults” at the “Kids on Fire Summer Camp,” why are they not locked up as child predators? Or I’m assuming such is the case. I can only hope it’s not. Then again this is what hope got us. Scratch that. I can and will expect it to happen?

Now, I’m not too sure how accurate it happens to be for me to assume the Evangelical sect of Christianity is responsible for such a disturbing display, that said, I’m not at all comfortable declaring it isn’t. Instilling an ideology into children with fear and ignorance is just fucking wrong. In literally every sense of decency.

I’m utterly shocked by the stupidity…
