I’m often asked if I’m up to date on advances scientists are making on spinal cord research? Honestly I don’t know much about my injuries. Nor do I know, or have much interest in what “they” could do to “fix” me. Mostly on account of I’ve always seen my situation as something that just happened to me. A modified part of an existence that I needed to learn to deal with if I ever hoped to continue to live a productive life.

I don’t or have I ever considered myself as broken. Just altered. Of course I appear different than most blokes on the street. But no matter how hard or soft you look, everyone is different. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re better than me on account of an assumed “inability.” No matter how fair that assumption may appear to be. And by no means does that mean I’m better than you. Interview

A friend who posed a set of questions for yours truly to answer for a school paper she is to write just left. It seems I slightly misunderstood the premise. She didn’t necessarily need me to write out every answer and hand them, complete to her. Which I did. She was to interview me and ask her questions and jot down my answers. She only forwarded me the questions as a “heads up” gesture. So I could think about and plan my answers, I guess. But what’s done is done.

But what was most compelling was the conversations that ensued. You see, she worked with me early on in my rehabilitation and was witness to much of what she asked. She able to add some to my thoughts. Things I forgot, was unaware of or, yes even hadn’t considered. Continue reading Interview

Determination

I briefly visited this in the first “edition” of this site. Back in the day. Before it was a blog. And when I was rooting around in my hard drive, I relocated it. Bam!

“How can he declare his existence as ‘unbounded’ when he uses a wheelchair as his only means of mobility?” I can hear it now. A tad shorter in length. With a slightly more urgent tone. “What the fuck? Is he serious?”

For what it’s worth, I didn’t choose the word “unbounded.” It was a term La La used when I asked how she’d describe me upon registering the domain for this website. And plopping the “existence” on the end was the next logical step after looking up “unbounded.com” and seeing it was already registered. Besides I like the ring of “UnboundedExistence.com.” So does Spags…
