We’ve just begun another month, yes it’s October. Where is the time going? Anyway, as it just so happens, this month marks my 5th Veganniversary! Wow, it’s been 5 years? Both, with respect to, it’s only been 5 years? And, I can’t believe it’s been 5 years, already? Kind of strange, now that I think about it.
Point is, it’s been 5 years since I started taking animal advocacy seriously, at least personally. My “outreach” could use a lot of work. But, that said, it all started with a “simple, yet effective,” act. Â My going vegan. I’ve been rather sensitive to animal issues for going on 15 years, but, speaking from experience, my efforts really didn’t mean much until I swore off all animal consumption. And, honestly, it was, by far, the best decision I’ve ever made.
Let me count the ways;
- The animals. I wouldn’t care to guess at the number of animals I’ve saved the ultimate insult of having to travel through my colon, only to end up in a toilet, and flushed to who knows, or cares, where. But I’m well sure it’s a bunch…
- Our planet. A statistic I’ve heard recently is animal agriculture accounts for upwards of 20% of greenhouse gas? That’s insane and is, in no way, necessary…
- My conscience. I couldn’t begin to describe how empowering such an act really is. I mean if I never do anything else in my life — which is a strong possibility — by mere existence, I cause people to actually consider two things. Why I don’t eat animal flesh and reproductive secretions. And, more importantly, why they do…
- My health. I’ve had a weight problem most of my life, then — for a short time — experienced adult on set of Type 2 Diabetes, as a direct result of my weight. But upon going vegan and insuring what I put in my mouth was actually good for me — which animal products are not, not even in moderation — I was able to get my weight in check and reverse my diabetes.
As I said, “simple, yet effective…”
And, the most amazing part it all, It’s easy to do. Ridiculously so. With a lot of compassion and a little attention anyone can. To which I’ll state, if I’d have known 15 years ago what I know today, I’d be celebrating my 15 year Veganniversary, this month. A largely obvious and unproductive observation, I know, but, hopefully, you get my point…
I’d now like to cite a great and rather unique resource I was recently made aware of, Animal Visuals, and specifically their Virtual Battery Cages. Check it out. I promise, I’ll say this just once more, “simple, yet effective…”
