Shudder To Think

Democracy Now spent, both, Thursday‘s and Friday‘s broadcasts, in their entirety this past week, discussing the current state of American health care and its prospective reform. Quite an interesting couple of hours, if not for anything else, than to give us Canadian’s a seemingly potential “heads-up” on what it is we need to brace for.

And contrary to what I’ve seen argued, what proponents of American privatized medicine are failing to disclose to those who are suggesting they try a “single payer” system in the U.S., is virtually everything they say is only part of the story. A flagrant half-truth.

And like so much of what people are exposed to, it is, without a doubt, the ugly half…

Better Late Than Never?

As with yesterday‘s post, I’ll spend today playing “catch-up,” if you will. In a former post, The Trial, I touched upon what is becoming more and more common, as of late, between citizens of this country and the government that “represents” them. But, what even I’ll admit is a very surprising — but welcomed — turn of events, the Canadian government, as of last Thursday(?), “said it would comply with a federal court order to let him [Abousfian Abdelrazik] return to Canada.” Imagine this;

“Abdelrazik, who has taken refuge in the Canadian Embassy in Khartoum for the past year, was expected to arrive at Toronto’s Pearson airport at 4:45 p.m. ET on Saturday…”

But what tragic story could end so neatly? Well, apparently, not this one. The above quote, near as I can figure, is talking about him returning this Saturday, June 27th. But “was expected,” versus, “is expected” being used is extremely noteworthy. As it just so happens, American’s have expressed an interest in us repatriating one of our citizens? So surprizing.

It feels kind of odd praising my government for doing something it should have done years ago. And with that said, what do I hear much too often — like speaking it somehow justifies any injustice — better late than never?

Dissent Being Silenced?

Sorry for my tardiness with what I’m writing about today, but with so much attention directed at Iran — concerning their freedom and “democracy” — these days, I can’t help but comment on both. And how they, most recently, relate to Canadian citizens.

It was late last week when I first heard about Internet Service Providers must help police and intelligence officers to intercept online communications and get personal information about subscribers, under new bills introduced Thursday. And I’ve only heard it mentioned once, in this article, since. Flash backs of The U.S. Patriot Act are pretty hard to ignore.

I’ve heard the argument prior to, and briefly since, this story broke. If you’re not doing anything wrong, why care, right?

Well, I fear, it’s not quite that simple. In being a fan of Will Potters work, over at Green Is The New Red, I’ve learned to be sensitive to any preliminary steps that could possibly threaten our rights here in Canada. This stinks of the Domestic Spying Program debacle in the U.S.. I say debacle, for three reasons. It’s illegal. I’m not so sure it has done anything but trample rights of American citizens. Plus unjustly persecuted certain demographics.

Anyway, my Canadian brethren, get in line. It’s our turn…

What’s Wrong With People?

Apparently yesterday saw the release of some sort of footwear “collaboration” between Kayne West and Nike. Thing is, people actually lined up, days in advance, for the shame of shelling out some ridiculous amount of money ($260 Canadian, as it turns out) for these ghastly, “pinched” pieces of shit — I just saw a picture of ’em. They were kinda neat when Marty put them on, in the future, 20 years ago. But they look lamely retro and quite foolish now. What’s wrong with people? Starting with him?

Problems with Nike aside, which are numerous, wasn’t Kanye the same ignorant prick who attended a recent fashion event in Paris, for Stella McCartney, and couldn’t stop asking why they’re isn’t more fur in the show?

No need to look it up. It was. Fuck this douche bag, his stupid shoes, and his apparent — in addition to capitalism’s – effect over mindless/tasteless/clueless consumers…
