Conversations

I had, not one, but two completely different, yet strangely compelling email conversations with a couple of long time friends yesterday. Both about politics. One was a general chat regarding generic foreign policy issues and the other about a more specific state of Canadian politics.

The subject of both really was inconsequential. I wasn’t that comfortable adding anything, of relevance, to either. Which kind of bothered me. It seemed I was a little “timid” about not knowing more about either subject.

Which inspired me, at least on the side of Canadian politics, to find out more. Continue reading Conversations

Become A Sustainer

I’ve been a ZNet sustainer since late last year? And I’m more than willing to admit I’m quite impressed with what I receive from my modest monthly contribution.

Honestly I don’t use my “member privileges” anywhere near its potential. I have yet to set up my “ZSpace Page.” I need to get on that. But what I do find most valuable is receiving “nightly sustainer commentary” in my email inbox. Granted it takes, at least, a $1 monthly contribution to be eligible for that “feature.” So I urge anyone who can afford to part with $12 a year to become a sustainer.

Because every so often you get little gems not unlike the one I received this morning… Continue reading Become A Sustainer

A Fascist Police State

Now with the same old stupidity underway this week in Denver, I’ve turned to DemocracyNow.org‘s coverage of the DNC. Aptly entitled “Breaking With Convention.” I say “aptly” simply because Amy & Co. are very busy reporting the other side. You’ll never find ANY of the stories featured there, since Monday at least, on mainstream television. And that does, in fact shatter the practice of modern journalism. Typical! Do yourself a favor and check it out…

Now I should state, before next week rolls around and it’s the Republican’s turn, I don’t think any better of the Republicans. Actually my thoughts concerning a “Neo-Conservative’s” racist, sexist and homophobic idea of “democracy” is worse. A lot worse.

But, to be fair both parties are contributing to the death of civilization and this planet in a shockingly similar way…

Up To The Task?

Apparently Exxon Mobil made $11.68 billion last quarter! And a 7% profit margin is, not only obscene, but an act that justifies punishment by taxation, if I’m to take Barack Obama’s words seriously.

But, Mr. Obama isn’t what you’re telling people you’re going to do and what you can actually do once elected a gross “conflict of interest?” Seems to me that the change you’re suggesting isn’t even possible once the oath of office is taken. Am I wrong? Aren’t all company’s accountable to their shareholders? And providing profit is, not just the main, but the sole impetus? Continue reading Up To The Task?
