More Prevalent?

With The United Nations Climate Change Conference, quickly approaching, and the situation growing more and more dire with each passing day, stories like the one I heard on Tuesday’s Democracy Now broadcast are going to become much more prevalent;

“In Canada, about 200 young people staged a protest inside the House of Commons Monday forcing lawmakers to shut down the question period. The activists were calling on the Canadian Parliament to pass a bill setting out deep cuts in carbon emissions. Six people were reportedly detained, and the police beat at least one protester.”

Or, at least, it’s my hope it becomes more prevalent. The protests, I mean, not the brutality. Even if it is the inevitable, not to mention expected, knee-jerk reaction from a lethargic government hoping to quell civil disobedience…

What The Hell Is Going On?

In what is truly the very definition of the absurd, Barack Obama, won the Nobel Peace prize, today. For merely talking his shit, and not acting on any of it? Have I got that right? But that for which he has done, and continues to do — which isn’t all that different from a former incoherent needle-dick’s killing, maiming, and oppressing — gets recognized as his efforts towards “peace,” as well? What the hell is going on?

We’ve got problems. And stunts like this, mark my words, only serve to exacerbate ’em…

Perversity Is Spreading

… And not in a good way. Yesterday’s Democracy Now’s broadcast was especially interesting, given recent events occurring in Iran, and specifically, the resulting tag it received;

“Forget CNN or any of the major American “news” networks. If you want to get the latest on the opposition protests in Iran, you should be reading blogs, watching YouTube or following Twitter updates from Tehran, minute-by-minute.”1

It has come to be known as the “Twitter Revolution.” A movement largely praised by the world. The United States Government, most emphatically, included.

Here’s why it’s interesting. In, what I must admit, is quite a stunning (but, sadly, not surprizing) turn of events, during the recent G20 Summit held in Pittsburgh, last month, a man, Elliot Madison, was arrested for, get this, using the exact same means of communication. In much the same way. The only difference being he was in America, “home of the free,” not “repressive” Iran…
