What’s Wrong With People?

Apparently yesterday saw the release of some sort of footwear “collaboration” between Kayne West and Nike. Thing is, people actually lined up, days in advance, for the shame of shelling out some ridiculous amount of money ($260 Canadian, as it turns out) for these ghastly, “pinched” pieces of shit — I just saw a picture of ’em. They were kinda neat when Marty put them on, in the future, 20 years ago. But they look lamely retro and quite foolish now. What’s wrong with people? Starting with him?

Problems with Nike aside, which are numerous, wasn’t Kanye the same ignorant prick who attended a recent fashion event in Paris, for Stella McCartney, and couldn’t stop asking why they’re isn’t more fur in the show?

No need to look it up. It was. Fuck this douche bag, his stupid shoes, and his apparent — in addition to capitalism’s – effect over mindless/tasteless/clueless consumers…

How’s That For Coincidence?

I thought I’d try and talk about something new, after a third consecutive post on the same subject, in this, my next post. But, what can I say, with two seemingly separate, yet relevant, occurrences happening in tandem this morning, it ain’t gonna happen?

First was my choosing to listen to Bad Religion‘s record “Against The Grain.” Which, I assure you, was entirely an arbitrary choice. And, other than not having heard it in years, is hardly out of the ordinary. The fact that the song “Operation Rescue” is on this record was purely coincidental. But, what was so peculiar was, just as “Positive Aspect Of Negative Thinking” began I started reading “30 Crimes the Government Chooses to Not Label Terrorism.” When, part way through the article, Greg Graffin, uncharacteristically monotone, uttered the words;

“I’m so tired of all the fucked up minds of all the terrorist religions and their bullshit lines…”

How’s that for coincidence?

Label Me Not So Surprized, This Time

Given the events taking place since last Sunday, in the very least, how exactly might “Are a lot of us potential militant extremists?,” such an absurd question?

“When [college students in the U.S. and advanced high school students in Serbia were] presented with statements that are in fact extracts of militant-extremist thinking, the typical response was somewhere in the range between ‘moderately disagree’ and ‘not sure.’ No one responded in a fashion one would expect from the most prototypical militant extremist: strongly agreeing with all indicator items. But respondents generally failed to strongly disassociate themselves from the sentiments found in these items. Thus the base rate of fanatical thinking patterns in the population does not appear to be low. […] Although militant-extremist leaders no doubt play a key role, it is probably not necessary for participants in militant-extremist movements to be brainwashed or severely indoctrinated. All that may be required is an intensification and an orchestration of sentiments and of ‘framings’ that many people are already or at least moderately sympathetic toward…”

That is if one Scott Roeder wasn’t already a right-wing nut job with a head full of shit. Go right ahead and, seriously, label me not so surprized this time…
