Dangler To The Rescue

So I’ve finally had an opportunity to “test” my site in a full gamut of web browsers. And I’m happy to report the largest display issues have been resolved across the board. Is it perfect? No. I still have some “tweeking” to do, but I’m feeling a lot better about what any one visitor might see. Now I know what to expect. Thanks yet again to the infamous Derk Dangler…

Now before I tear off into rant about how a certain software vendor makes my life, and from what I still continue to read, lives of a great many people frustrating, I think it would be of interest to someone to point at Eric Meyer’s blog post, “Bad Timing.” And this has as much to do with me as it does anyone. I’ve taken my fair shot at Microsoft over Internet Explorer. But I’ve tried, really hard to keep it civilized. Eric raises a valid point;

“If you think web development is horrible now, how about a future where there literally are entirely different browsers to support? Or a future where the open web is largely shriveled and dead thanks to wide-scale abandonment by the Windows community?”

Basically his point is whiney baby Microsoft could get fed-up (if it hasn’t already) with the lawsuits and, frankly the hatred people feel towards their slow-moving, ass-backwards corporate attitudes and could stop altogether trying to satisfy anyone. In as much as I would be interested to watch them squirm as a result, I agree exclusion is absolutely no-way to approach a problem that has the likely potential to help so many people. All jokes aside this is very serious business…

And so I hereby promise never to take another shot at Microsoft over IE again. Besides it’s roughly 5 years past tired.

With that said it would be rather irresponsible of me if I didn’t offer a solution of my own. I think Dangler should get Steve Ballmer on the horn and talk to him. Once good ol’ Derk gets a few beers into him, he’s ridiculously charming. Trust me. Let’s just see what comes of that.

It’s my bird, what a shame, it’s Derk Dangler to the rescue. Yet again…
